PURPOSE

Rainy Day Fund works to eliminate the financial barriers that prevent individuals from exiting or avoiding the legal system by assisting with costs associated with housing, employment, securing identification, restoration of rights, court costs, and other immediate needs.

MISSION

We work to provide funding to help meet the immediate needs and alleviate financial barriers to success for individuals who are involved in (or at risk of) involvement with the US legal system.

VISION

We envision a community where one’s risk of legal system involvement is not dependent upon one’s ability to pay for their immediate needs.

After months of nonstop work serving our community, the team at Rainy Day Fund will be taking a much-needed break.

Our office will be closed beginning Wednesday, May 20, 2026 through Sunday, May 31, 2026. We will reopen on Monday, June 1, 2026.

Since January 2025, our team has worked tirelessly to support individuals and families across our community, and this short pause will allow us time to rest, recharge, and return refreshed and ready to continue the important work ahead.

We sincerely appreciate your patience, understanding, and continued support. Thank you for standing with us as we continue working toward hope, stability, and opportunity for those we serve.

We are incredibly grateful. đź’›

Because of YOU, Rainy Day Fund had a strong showing during Midlands Gives this year and every single donation made a difference.

To everyone who gave, shared, encouraged, and showed up for us, thank you. You are part of something bigger than a single day.

We also want to give a special thank you to The Cheerful Giver and the African American Philanthropy Committee for their generous support and belief in our mission.

Your kindness helps us do what matters most:
đź’› Remove barriers
đź’› Create opportunities
đź’› Support second chances

Midlands Gives may be over, but the work continues and so does the need.

When utility rates go up, our community feels it first.

At Rainy Day Fund, we serve individuals and families already facing tough choices. A proposed rate increase by Dominion Energy could push even more households into crisis.

We encourage everyone to join the upcoming webinar from South Carolina Appleseed Legal Justice Center, today, at 6 pm, to learn what’s being proposed and how you can share your voice with the Public Service Commission of South Carolina.

Stay informed. Speak up. Our community depends on it.

SC Appleseed Legal Justice Center (https://www.scjustice.org/)

"We are hosting an upcoming webinar about Dominion Energy's proposal to raise utility rates. They will be having a public hearing through the Public Services Commission (PSC) in Columbia on May 12 and possibly the 13th if there are many individuals who would like to give public comment. We will provide an overview of the general rate hike, the impacts, and how to share your testimony to the PSC."

Last week, we sat in a room filled with people asking an important question:
What happens after incarceration?

At the "Redemption After Incarceration Symposium", sponsored by Goodwill and Path2Redemption, one thing became clear; it’s often not someone’s past that keeps them stuck…It’s the cost of moving forward.

A simple fee.
An ID.
A court-related expense.
Expungement fees.
Pardon fees.

Things many of us wouldn’t think twice about can stop someone from getting a job, securing housing, or rebuilding their life.

At Rainy Day Fund, this is where we step in. We help remove those financial barriers so people have a real chance to move forward.

Because we believe something deeply:
💛 Second chances shouldn’t depend on someone’s ability to pay.

We’re out here in the community learning, listening, and doing everything we can to better serve those who need it most. Now, we’re asking for your support.

Midlands Gives is happening now, and every dollar helps us say “yes” when someone needs it most.

👉 Give today
👉 Be part of someone’s second chance

Because redemption shouldn’t come with a price tag.
