β¨ Since weβve gained so many new friends since our launch in 2021, we thought it was time to reintroduce ourselves! β¨
Weβre Leanne and Kieley, the mother-daughter duo behind the Rainy Day Fund. It all started when Kieley, a public defender, began paying out-of-pocket for her clientsβ essentialsβlike birth certificates, bus tickets, and hygiene items. Over time, we realized that these small financial hurdles were keeping people stuck in cycles of legal system involvement and poverty.
In 2019, we hosted our first donation drive, and by 2021, the Rainy Day Fund was born. Now, with the help of an incredible team of public interest lawyers and social workers, we work to remove the financial barriers that stand in the way of people moving forward. π

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! With your generous help RDF was able to meet our Giving Tuesday goal ($5,000 in donations and $5,000 in matching funds for a total of $10,000!!!). These contributions will continue our work supporting neighbors as they untangle themselves from the criminal legal system and, hopefully, find success.
Your support also helps the public defenders WE LOVE extend their work - allowing RDF to be a "tool" in their representation toolbelt. The last lawyer we want to highlight is Lindsay Adler. Lindsay has been a relentless advocate for her clients, demonstrating a fierce commitment to justice even in the face of an often unjust system. Her powerful, zealous representation ensures that every individual she defends has a voice, no matter how challenging the circumstances. Also, she was a founding board member of RDF and her contributions have been critical!
